Situation
BASSE Solutions was asked to attend Woodward House, Leamington Spa, to quote for the fixing of a risky, uneven pathway. The pathway is to the rear of the property and used to access the bin stores as well as the fire escape exits and stairways, from both the commercial units and residential flats.
Previous repairs had been carried out by alternate firms, but only to relay the paving slabs without dealing with the sub-base and the root cause of the issue.
Task
The slabs had been found to be undermined by rodents, leaving burrows underneath and allowing the slabs to collapse into the void. This can quite often become a problem with paving if an effective pest control program isn’t implemented on the property.
Action
The BASSE Solutions team lifted all old paving and remove the old failed sand base and dug out the area to allow for the repair work.
The space was backfilled with high strength concrete mix and compacted to create an effective barrier. A Type 1 sub-base was laid down, compacted and levelled until achieving the desired run off. Strong mortar mix was then laid down on the bed and the 50mm pavers on top, which had been set aside and cleaned earlier.
