Situation

Our client, Bidborough Church of England Primary School in Kent, called to request a review of the poor heating output from old storage heaters across one of their buildings.

Having been built in the 1950’s, the traditional storage heating system was now outdated and no longer effective in providing heat to both children and staff.

As Bidborough COE Primary School were planning for their shutdown for the school Summer holidays, they were keen for the site visit, planning and project to be completed in a short time window before the children return for the new school year and, before the colder weather sets in for Autumn / Winter.

The time-bound project required forward-planning to ensure our team could not only access the site during the summer holidays but complete the refit from start to finish within a 4-week window.

Task

Our commercial heating and electrical engineers conducted a service across the school’s old heating system. Once the recommendations were agreed upon and the project completion date confirmed, the team attended the site to replace the existing units.

Shortly after works began, poor existing wiring (not up to current standards), hidden on initial survey, was identified. This meant our team had to adapt their original plan and upgrade the wiring first, to ensure that the refit could then be completed safely.

Our team worked hard to ensure the new wiring and heaters would still be fitted within the original agreed timeframe.

Action

The team worked long hours, enabling the prompt completion of the refit. New heating systems had successfully been fitted across all classrooms, which required one last test before commissioning.
All work was completed on-time.

While at the school, the client requested a review of another reactive maintenance need that was also promptly examined by our team with no questions asked and at no additional cost.

Identified was an additional fault with heating to the school hall and power supply to the communication room.

Results

  • Overall, the client was pleased, complimenting the work and recognising the speed of the project and the professionalism of our team

  • The client also noted the additional efforts made by the BASSE Solutions team who went above and beyond their initial project requirements
