It’s a strange old time with restrictions finally being lifted. Multiple households are allowed to mix indoors, restaurants are opening, and many businesses are beginning the process of moving employees back into their main place of work.
As commercial facilities have been operating under limited capacities, or in some case not at all, it’s essential that part of the back to work process for you and all staff includes basic maintenance checks of your building.
As a facilities / office manager, it’s your job to ensure the safety of anyone who visits your premise and to ensure that your commercial facilities are safe and secure for all.
We recommend that the below commercial facilities maintenance checks are made prior to your doors re-opening to all members of staff and the general public.
Keep your water clean and safe
It’s recommended that water tanks, calorifiers, outlet flushing and showerheads throughout your building are checked for any legionella bacteria. To avoid serious health risks to yourself, your employees and co-workers, the temperature of the water tanks needs to be maintained accordingly as well as tested quarterly.
Additionally, we recommend that all water outlets running in the commercial property are flushed and cleared of debris and are flushing clean water through both hot and cold pipes for at least 5 minutes. These are basic checks that can sometimes even be completed after an initial phone call with a member of our team – we’d be more than happy to help whether it’s virtually or in person.
However, if you require information on legionella ACOP L8, water sampling or general water systems, please contact BASSE Solutions directly.
Blowing hot and cold
We suggest that the heating and air conditioning systems at your commercial facility are also checked on a regular basis.
Is it working? Is it safe, compliant and maintained? These are all questions that you should be asking yourself. However, if you find yourself stuck, our commercial facilities maintenance team are on hand to answer any questions you may have and rectify any issues.
Having these systems inspected by a professional is necessary when ensuring the safety of those that are returning to your premises.
Don’t leave yourself open to any shocks
In addition to the above, we strongly recommend that all the electrics in your building are inspected, including any lights, sockets, wiring and lifts.
As you can imagine, there are plenty of hazards and risks that can occur if a buildings electrics aren’t up to scratch. From electric shocks to explosions caused by unsuitable electrical apparatus, it most definitely isn’t worth the risk.
We would always recommend that a qualified and trained electrician gives your building the all clear.
BASSE Solutions offers a full wiring and electrical maintenance service.
Gas systems
Having gas appliances checked and inspected is a legal compliance matter.
Any gas appliances at your commercial property needs thorough examination. Not having the gas checked leaves yourself, your visitors and co-workers at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning or worse, a gas explosion. Annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement! We also suggest checking that all safety inspection certificates are up to date and placed on clear display in your work premise.
The safety of staff and any visitors to your facility falls on you. Whether you own the building, are the facilities or maintenance manager or are part of a larger maintenance team – it’s your responsibility to make sure that all top-level maintenance is completed and checked before you welcome visitors, employees and co-workers back.
Other areas to consider
Other areas that are important to consider are checking your locks and hinges and any access control or door entry systems. These are what keep your premises safe overnight!
